Weekends seems to fly past and weekdays seem the crawl. The dreaded Monday blues is here again. There are ways to perk yourself up and make the weekdays a lot better.

Good start to the day

Having a good start is very important and that means having enough sleep. Sleep deprivation will definitely make the day crawl to a halting stop. Have enough time int he morning to have a good breakfast, drink lots of water to hydrate yourself. Take a shower and empty your bowels. Listen to your favorite music while commuting. Make sure you plan enough travel time so you do not have to run to office.

Pacing and load distribution

Start up your computer, fire up the email app to start download your emails. While that is going on, focus on any urgent or overdue tasks and set out to complete them. Keep a simple to do list which has prioritizes some important projects or issues on hand. Get through the day and concentrate on clearing your to do list as well as emails.

Variation and breaks

Work life is full of mundane tasks, interesting projects and routine actions. Bite some boring tasks early in the day and rotate among the different types of work so avoid burnout. Plan little breaks in between your work day to allow recovery so that you can refocus on the day ahead.

Teamwork and office politics

There will always be office gossips going around and infighting. Try to detach as much as possible so avoid making enemies. This is very important because everyone needs help at some point of time and a harmonious working relationship is the requisite to a collaboration towards a common goal.

Health and exercise

Workplace fatigue is known to be one of the key contributors for ill health. Try to incorporate exercise into your daily life and even during the work day. Take the stairs instead of the lift or escalator. Try walking further to explore a new lunch venue. Drink water throughout the day and emptying your bowels will ensure physical activity throughout the day. Exercise is known to reduce stress and leaving you with a positive mind.

Criticism and adaptation

There might be criticism somewhere along the way about your work. Don’t take it negatively. Instead turn that feedback into a force to learn, adapt and change to power forward. Never let the negativity drag you down.

KISS

Having office romance and kissing in office is not acceptable. This is instead keeping all things simple and sweet. Break up big projects into smaller achievable tasks so they do not look so daunting. In your work presentation to others, keep it as simple as possible so it is easy for others to work with. While sophistry looks sexy on powerpoint presentations, they are actually not in real life.

All of the above will hopefully help you achieve a paradigm shift on how you view your daily work and make you happier. If you still find yourself dragging your feet to work, perhaps it is time to update your resume.
